Ahead of one year anniversary, Security Council debates Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Members of the United Nations Security Council called for Russia to end its war in Ukraine on Monday (February 6), in a debate just weeks before its first anniversary on Feb. 24.

United States Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas Greenfield said Russia’s President Vladimir Putin could end the invasion by “pulling his troops out of Ukraine and really allow for peace to take place”.

“Russian missile and drone terror remains a major threat for the civilian population throughout Ukraine”, said Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.N. Sergiy Kyskytsya.

The West has imposed sweeping punitive measures since Russia’s nearly year-old invasion of Ukraine that has devastated cities, killed tens of thousands of people, forced millions to flee their homes, and shaken the global economy.
