A police department in New Jersey has raised alarms after disclosing that a drone deployed to monitor an unidentified aircraft was able to ‘easily’ evade detection before vanishing completely.

Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy stated that his department initiated the drone operation after an officer observed 50 unmanned aerial vehicles ’emerging from the ocean.’

The officer promptly contacted 911 to inform state police, the FBI, and the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard subsequently reported sighting 13 drones trailing their vessel, estimating that these devices had a wingspan of eight feet.

Mastronardy informed NewsNation’s Rich McHugh that the department deployed an ‘industrial grade’ drone to pursue one of the aerial devices, but it swiftly eluded their surveillance.

This occurrence is part of a series of drone sightings that have alarmed residents in the Garden State and beyond.

McHugh remarked, ‘If this is not our military, then it’s even more concerning.’

On Friday, John Kirby, National Security Communications Advisor at the White House, reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm, despite the numerous sightings.

Kirby suggested that many of the reports were likely instances where manned aircraft were misidentified as drones.
